A Class XI girl lost her life and 31 persons, including several other students and teachers, suffered injuries when the private school bus they were travelling in collided with a Haryana Roadways bus amid low visibility due to foggy weather conditions at Kaliawas village in Jhajjar district on Sunday morning, officials said.
The private school bus with students onboard was on its way to Pratapgarh village in Jhajjar district from Dadri, and the Haryana Roadways bus from Charkhi Dadri was on its way to Dadri from Jhajjar when the two vehicles collided at Kaliawas village, officials said.
The injured children, bus driver, conductor and teachers were shifted to the local Civil Hospital and nearby private hospitals, they said. Twenty-three of them were discharged after administering first aid, while eight seriously injured are undergoing treatment.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 2.50 lakh for the family of the deceased student and Rs 50,000 for each of the eight injured persons, along with free medical treatment and reimbursement of medical expenses.
The chief minister said that all buses of Haryana State Transport are insured, ensuring passengers can avail coverage in unforeseen situations. He directed officials to process insurance claims smoothly so that affected families receive prompt assistance.
The chief minister instructed the administration to ensure proper medical care for the injured persons and to keep continuous monitoring of the situation.
Saini also appealed to the public to exercise utmost caution while travelling in foggy conditions.
