My mother and elder sister also helped me in studies whenever I needed,” Arindam said shortly after the results were announced, adding that he used to study 3-4 hours a day.

His elder sister Sandipa Malla was also in the top 10 merit list in Class 12 in 2020. Currently, she is pursuing English honours in Belonia.

His family has been running through some financial patch since his mother Shipra Dutta Malla, who was a government school teacher, lost her job alongwith the 10323 teachers in 2020, whose posts were retrenched by a 2017 Supreme Court verdict. However, the family didn’t let anything come between the young boy and his dreams.

“I hope Psychology and Education subjects be introduced in every school in the state. It will be helpful for the students who want to study those subjects. Moreover, I request the state government to relief poor students from paying fees to study in schools under Vidyajyoti Mission,” he told.

He hopes the state government will bring more development in the education, healthcare and sports sectors in future.
