Indians make the largest share of foreign students in Uzbekistan

Like in the US and UK, Indians register as the highest number of foreign students studying in higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. The Statistics Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan has shared a report recently mentioning 5733 Indians are studying in the academic year 2023-2024. According to the report, Indian students make up the largest, followed by Pakistan (1358) and Turkmenistan (904).

As per data from the Ministry of External Affairs, 4100 students are pursuing higher education in the country as of January 1.

Other countries that follow the trail are the Russian Federation with 904 students, Kazakhstan with 537 students, and Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic both having 285 students in the country.

In Uzbekistan, 196 students from Afghanistan are studying, 182 from China, 176 from Korea and 124 from Canada. Other countries which the report does not talk about make a share of 312 students.

Meanwhile, Indians are also the largest cohort of international students in the US, according to the latest Open Doors 2024 report. In 2023-24, there were 3.31 lakh Indian students in the US, it was 25.4% the previous academic year. Similarly, other countries like UK too have reported increase in the number of Indian students.
