Karnataka: PM Modi inaugurates permanent campus of IIT-Dharwad

PM Modi said that this new campus of IIT Dharwad with high-tech facilities will help it become one of the best institutes in the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Technology, Dharwad. The PM said as the number of institutes will increase, more and more people will get education.

PM Modi said that this new campus of IIT Dharwad will write a new chapter in the development of Karnataka. The high-tech facilities at IIT Dharwad will help it become one of the best institutes in the world.

The institute has been built at a cost of over 850 crore and currently offers four-year BTech programme, five-year BS-MS programmes, MTech and PhD programmes. It was established in 2016 as an Institute of National Importance.

Earlier, the academic activities were held at the transit campus at the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI), Dharwad. At present there are 856 students and 73 faculty members in the institute. The new campus is built on 470 acres of land.

It has been given a five-star rating by the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) for a large Development Master Plan involving designing and constructing a green, smart and world class campus with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
