Paris Paralympics 2024: Here is the list of winners and their educational backgrounds. (Images: X) Paris Paralympics 2024: With a few days left for the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024, India has so far bagged 27 medals with 6 gold, 9 silver, and 12 bronze. These winners are not only exceptional in their sports but follow the same dedication in academics. Here is the list of some of the winners and their educational backgrounds which will prove them an all-rounder.
Nitesh Kumar: Born in Haryana in December 1994, Kumar got admission to IIT Mandi in 2013. He completed his graduation from the Institute in Electrical Engineering. This year, under NIRF Rankings, IIT-M secured 72 position. However, the gold medalist’s passion for the sport began in his school days with football and it was at IIT Mandi that he developed a strong interest in badminton.
Suhas L Yathiraj: An Indian Administrative Officer, he achieved a silver medal at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. Yathiraj completed his BTech in Computer Science from NIT Surathkal. This year, under NIRF Rankings, the Institute ranked 46. Not only at Paris, Suhas achieveda gold medal in World Champions, Asian Para Games and Tokyo Paralympics.
Sharad Kumar: The silver medalist achieved the medal in Men’s High Jump T63 at Paris Paralympics. He completed his graduation in Political Science from Delhi University‘s Kirori Mal College. This year under NIRF Rankings, the college ranked 9. It was in 2021 when he received the Arjuna Award for his outstanding performance in sports and games in the country.
Yogesh Kathuniya: Along with Sharad Kumar, Kathuniya also had his higher education from Kirori Mal College in commerce. This year under NIRF Rankings, the college ranked 9. The 27-year-old man took up sports at the age of 20. He also received Arjuna Award in 2021.
Ajeet Singh: 30-year-old Ajeet Singh under men’s Javelin throw. Singh made a throw of 65.62m at the Stade de France. He is pursing PhD from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education.
Mariyappan Thangavelu: The bronze-medalist has been graduated from AVS College of Arts and Science in business administration.
Nishad Kumar: Kumar completed his schooling from Chandigarh and pursued his higher education from the University of Himachal Pradesh. Nishad also studied Physical Education at Punjab’s Lovely Professional University as claimed by media reports.
Thulasimathi Murugesan: Tamil Nadu’s Murugesan completed her education from the Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. Her sister is a Badminton player and has been playing various district-level games.
Avani Lekhara: The gold medalist has completed her law degree from the University of Rajasthan.
Mona Agarwal: The bronze medalist has a Master’s degree in psychology through a distance learning programme.
Preethi Pal: Pal has completed her graduation in forestry studies from the Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. She has won bronze medal.
Rubina Francis: The bronze medalist has a degree in commerce from GS College of Commerce and Economics in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.
Kapil Parmar: The 23-year-old from Madhya Pradesh won a bronze medal in men’s 60 kg (JI). He has completed his education in Physical Education from Guru Kashi University.
