This Bengaluru boy always wanted to take up the medical field as his grandfather, aunt and uncle are doctors. He maintained a good academic record by scoring 98.8 per cent marks in Class 10 and 99.4 per cent marks in Class 12. Speaking to indianexpress.com, Advani shares his NEET UG strategy. Read edited excerpts here:
How did you prepare for NEET UG?
After Class 10, I enrolled on a two-year-long coaching course from Aakash Byju’s. Apart from the study materials provided by them, I relied on the NCERT books. For most of my preparation days, I went mostly with the schedule provided by my coaching institute.
Was it difficult for you to prepare for CBSE and NEET UG simultaneously?
Preparing for the board exams and NEET UG together was not too much of a challenge because whatever we learned for NEET was fundamentally the same thing that we were learning for the board. I made sure my concepts were clear.
How did you prepare for those portions of the syllabus that were deleted by CBSE?
After CBSE deleted some portions of Class 11 and Class 12 syllabi, I did not ignore anything from them. I ensured to pay the same attention I gave to the chapters that were not deleted. It was indeed a little bit of extra effort while learning but it became beneficial ultimately.
Did you get nervous during your preparation days? How did you destress?
I did get nervous during my preparation. I used to play basketball almost every day to destress myself. I also used to take walks, read novels and watch cinemas to calm me down.
Did you miss the festive season the year before appearing for NEET?
No, I enjoyed celebrating Dussehra and Diwali last year. I participated in all the festivities while simultaneously preparing for the pre-board and mock exams happening around the time.
What would you recommend to NEET UG 2024 aspirants?
– Take it slow. It is a long journey but it will be worth it in the end
– Stay consistent
– Find out what works for you and use that
– Do not panic
– Do not blindly apply what other people do
– Take your time and figure out what you want to do
– Take care of mental health first
– Stay confident
Did you find any question in the NEET question paper that was difficult to answer?
I got confused with the assertion and reasoning. Although these questions were asked in all the sections of the NEET UG question paper those were ambiguous only in chemistry.
Why did you choose AIIMS Delhi?
I am keen to take research later and AIIMS Delhi fosters a culture of research unlike any other institute, therefore, I decided to take admission here. During my four-month stint at AIIMS Delhi, I have been learning a lot. It has built confidence in me. Right from what we are learning now to the practicals we are exposed to, we are also taught to respect other people. It has fostered a love for life and learning in me.
