NEET UG 2024 Counselling: Things you need to know before the MCC releases schedule

For central level the NEET UG counselling is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The National Testing Agency released the results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test- Undergraduate (NEET-UG) on June 4 at its official website. After a brief legal battle, the Agency released the re-revised scorecard and cut-off for the 2024 session.

For the NEET UG 2024 counselling, students will have to register themselves at mcc.nic.in. This way the students will be able to participate in the counselling process once the notification for the same is out.

The students need to know that mere registration at the portal does not confer any automatic rights to secure an undergraduate seat in any medical college. The admission of a student is subject to fulfilling the merit, admission criteria, eligibility, and such criteria as may be prescribed by the respective universities, medical institutions, Medical Council of India, state or central government.

State and central counselling are held by different institutions. For the central level, the NEET UG counselling is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Directorate hold online counselling for 15 per cent of All India Quota (AIQ) seats for UG courses, 50 per cent of AIQ seats for PG courses, and 100 per cent seats in the super-specialty courses (DM/Mch).

NEET UG 2024: Rounds of counselling

In 2023, there were four rounds of NEET UG 2024 counselling.

Open seats-domicile free includes:

  • 15 per cent All India Quota seats MBBS/ BDS Seats of States
  • 100 per cent MBBS/ BDS Seats of BHU
  • AIIMS Open seats- 100 per cent  MBBS Seats of AIIMS across India
  •  JIPMER Open (Puducherry/ Karaikal)
  • AMU Open
  • 15 per cent  All India Quota seats of DU/ I.P University (VMMC/ ABVIMS/ESIC Dental)
  • Jamia Open seats- Faculty of Dentistry (Jamia Milia Islamia)
  • 15 per cent All India Quota Seats of ESIC

Reservation policy for 15 per cent AIQ-UG: 

  • SC- 15 per cent
  •  ST- 7.5 per cent
  • OBC- (Non-Creamy Layer) as per the Central OBC list- 27 per cent
  • EWS- as per Central Government norms- 10 per cent
  • PwD- Horizontal Reservation as per NMC norms- 5 per cent
