JEE Main 2024 Session 2 Updates: Difficulty level, question types and more

Math
- Moderately tough. Questions were asked from all chapters with emphasis on chapters of calculus and coordinate geometry. Questions were also asked from matrices and determinants, 3D geometry, vectors, permutation and combination, probability, complex numbers, statistics, progressions, quadratic equations, function, limits, continuity and differentiability, application of derivative, definite integrals, differential equations, area, straight line, circle, conic sections with mixed concept questions. The numerical section had lengthy calculations from chapters of calculus and coordinate geometry. A few questions were reported as lengthy and tricky. Few students reported errors in two questions with insufficient data.

Physics
- Easy paper. Questions were asked from kinematics, gravitation, rotational motion, laws of motion, magnetism, ray optics, capacitance, electromagnetic induction, AC circuits, modern physics, work power and energy, heat and thermodynamics. Numerical based questions were lengthy but easy. Few fact-based questions from Class 12 chapters of NCERT were also asked. 

Chemistry
- Easy paper. Organic and inorganic chemistry were given more weightage compared to physical chemistry. Questions were asked from periodic table, chemical bonding, d and f block elements, electrochemistry, mole concept, coordination compounds, p-block elements, general organic chemistry, alcohol, ether and phenol, biomolecules, amines, aryl and alkyl halides with mixed concept questions. Some fact-based questions from NCERT were asked. 

In terms of order of difficulty – mathematics was moderately tough while physics and chemistry were easy. Overall, this paper was of Moderate level as per students.

The JEE Main paper 1 exam in shift 2 begins at 3 pm.

According to Ramesh Batlish, Head-FIITJEE Noida Centres, in terms of the order of difficulty - mathematics was moderately tough while physics and chemistry were easy. Overall, the paper 1 today held in the morning shift was of moderate level, he added.

Mathematics paper in the first shift was moderate to difficult based on students’ feedback, Ajay Kumar Sharma said while sharing feedback on the exam. Questions from calculus were dominant followed by vectors and 3D, matrices and determinants. Questions were also asked from quadratic equations and binomial theorem in the paper. Almost all the topics were covered. The quality of the questions was good and the paper was a bit lengthy because of the Maths part. In comparison to Class 11 and Class 12 portions, most of the questions were asked from Class 12 syllabus only. 

According to the feedback received from students, Ajay Kumar Sharma said that the physics part in shift 1 today was easy and straightforward.

Questions from thermodynamics, magnetism, current electricity, modern physics and electrostatistics were duly represented in the paper, he added.

Most of the questions were asked from the 12th class syllabus. In comparison to the phase-I physics papers, physics questions are on the same side, the expert said.

Most of the questions in chemistry paper today were theoretical in nature with maximum number of questions asked from organic and inorganic chemistry. Questions from prominent chapters like hydrocarbons, electrochemistry, equilibrium and alcohol, phenol and ethers, p-block were asked. Overall coverage of the chapters was uniform. Almost all the questions are more or less related to or asked from NCERT only. 

Physics was the easiest of the three today, whereas chemistry was moderate, and mathematics had tricky and lengthy questions and can be considered to be moderate to difficult by many students, as per analysis shared by Ajay Kumar Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash Educational Services Limited.

NTA has taken disciplinary action against the 10 candidates found using unfair means on JEE Main April 2024 day one exam.

For JEE Main Session 2 also NTA has deployed various processes to prevent malpractices, therefore, even during the ongoing exam, any candidate is subject to verification, biometric, frisking in view of the signal which may be flashed through AI tools, CCTV analysis and live streaming in the NTA’s command control room.

The JEE Main morning session exam is over at 12 noon. The next shift will start at 3 pm and continue till 6 pm.

NTA has implemented rigorous measures to deter malpractices and ensure the examination's fairness, such as multistage verification, biometric authentication, EKYC and frisking of the candidates, the invigilation staff and any other associated functionaries.

Even, if a candidate goes for bio-break/toilet, he/she should undergo the mandatory frisking and biometric again. Therefore, candidates are again advised not to move during the examination and should not indulge in talking or peeping or assisting others in the examination.

Such an act may lead to cancellation of the candidature and debarring the candidate for current year and in future from appearing in the exam, and it invites to initiate the criminal proceedings or strict action against the wrong-doer.

A total of total 12.57 lakh candidates have registered for JEE Main 2024 exam this year.

NTA has released the admit card for all the days of the JEE Main exam 2024 exam. Candidates taking the exam can download the JEE Main admit card from jeemain.nta.ac.in.

The paper 2 JEE Main 2024 session 2 exam will be held for BArch and BPlanning on April 12.

Chemistry
- The paper was by and large based on NCERT books
-There was almost equal distribution in all the three parts of chemistry - physical, organic and inorganic
- Questions were mainly straightforward
- Questions from prominent chapters like equilibrium, bonding, alcohol, phenol and ethers, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics and alkyl and aryl halides were asked
- Overall coverage of the chapters was uniform. 
Physics
- Physics part was of easy to moderate level and questions were mostly straightforward.
- Questions from modern physics, work power and energy, thermodynamics, current electricity, modern physics and electrostatics were there in the paper.
- Most of the questions were asked from the Class 12th syllabus.

Mathematics
- Mathematics paper was moderate to difficult just like the Shift-1 paper.
- Questions from algebra and calculus were dominant in the paper.
- A good number of questions were asked from vectors and 3D
- Questions from binomial theorem, sequence and series, statistics were there in the paper.
- Almost all the topics were covered. 
It was a balanced paper which can be solved in the given time. Most of the students found mathematics a bit lengthy. The difficulty level wise order according to a large section of students is Mathematics > Physics > Chemistry

On the first day of JEE Main, one case of impersonation and nine cases of UFM were caught. NTA has deployed AI tools, iFace to ascertain the identity of candidates through cross-verifying the photo on the JEE Main admit card with the live photograph of the candidate that is taken at the exam center, mandatory frisking, EKYC etc.

NTA has chalked out a detailed plan to execute JEE Main 2024 April exam. Control Rooms for strict vigil and monitoring were set up at NTA, New Delhi. Live feeds from cameras installed in each of the exam rooms and labs were closely monitored by virtual observers who generated real-time alerts, an NTA statement said.

The first day of the second session of JEE Main 2024 was held in two shifts in 290 cities at 495 exam centres across India and abroad, NTA said in a statement.

As per analysis shared by Ajay Kumar Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash Educational Services Limited, the JEE Main 2024 held on the second shift of April 4, the physics paper was on the easy to moderate side, chemistry was easiest among the three. Maths was not that tricky but was a bit lengthy, he added.

The second day of JEE Main 2024 April session exam started at 9 am today. The exam will continue till 12 noon. NTA is conducting paper 1 or the BE/BTech paper today. 

On day-1 of the JEE Main 2024 session 2 exam, one case of impersonation and nine cases of UFM were caught. "All such cases will be dealt with as per the UFM procedures," NTA in a statement said.

The seocnd shift exam of JEE Main 2024 session 2 will soon conclude at 6 pm.

Candidates appearing for the JEE Main should note that they cannot carry instruments, geometry or pencil box, handbag, purse, any paper/ stationery/ textual material (printed or written material), eatables and water (loose or packed), mobile phone/ earphone/ microphone/ pager, calculator, Docupen, slide rules, log tables, camera, tape recorder, electronic watches with facilities of calculator, any metallic item or electronic gadgets/ devices to the examination centre.

— Students can carry a transparent ballpoint pen.

— Personal hand sanitizer (50 ml), if required.

— A transparent water bottle.

— Sugar tablets/fruits (like banana/apple/orange), in case the candidate is diabetic.

NTA has released the for the candidates of JEE Main 2024 Session 2 (April 2024) scheduled to appear on April 8, 9 and 12.

In terms of order of difficulty, Mathematics was rated as moderate while Physics and Chemistry were rated as easy. Overall, the day 1, shift 1 of JEE Main 2024 April session was of moderate difficulty level.

The Physics examm was rated as easy by students and experts today. 

Questions asked from Kinematics, Gravitation, Circular Motion, Heat & Thermodynamics, Magnetism-2 questions, Wave Optics,  Current Electricity-2 questions, Electrostatics, Modern Physics, Semi-Conductors. Both MCQs & Numerical based questions were lengthy but easy. Few fact-based questions from class 12 chapters of NCERT were also asked.

Students felt Physics section was calanced as per coverage of chapters.

JEE Main April 2024 will be conducted between April 4 and 12. While the paper 1 (BE/ BTech) will be held on April 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, paper 2 held for BArch and BPlanning will be conducted on April 12.

In Chemistry, the paper was easy. Organic chemistry was heavily weighted, and questions from thermodynamics, physical chemistry, and metallurgy were included in the exam. Revising the periodic table, integer-type questions, Thermochemistry, and Kinetics before the exam is also advisable, said Nitin Viijay from Motion Education.

The mathematics portion of the JEE Main session 2 2024 paper 1, day 1 was rated as moderate on the difficulty level. A few questions were reported to be lebgthy and tricky.

Questions were asked from all chapters with emphasis on Chapters of Calculus & Algebra. More than one question asked from Vectors, 3 D Geometry, Differential Equations & Conic Sections. In Calculus, questions asked from Functions, Continuity & Differentiability, Definite Integral ,Area, Differential Equations. In Algebra- Probability, Binomial Theorem, Complex Numbers, Permutation & Combination, Statistics, Progressions, Matrices & Determinants. In Coordinate Geometry, questions asked from Parabola, Ellipse & Hyperbola with mixed concepts. The Numerical Section had lengthy calculations. 

Questions covered almost all chapters of Class 11 and 12 from CBSE board. Paper was of a better level than Jan session, says Ramesh Batlish, Head-FIITJEE Noida Centres.

The NTA has concluded the morning slot exam of JEE Main 2024 session 2 exam for Paper 1. The analysis for this will soon be shared by experts and students' reaction will also soon be uploaded on this page.

"In case of any discrepancy in the particulars of the candidate or his/her photograph and signature shown in the e-admit card and confirmation page, the candidate may immediately approach the NTA help line from 10 am to 5 pm. In such a case, the candidate would appear in the examination with the already downloaded admit card. However, NTA will take necessary action to make corrections in the record later," a statement on the NTA JEE Main 2024 information brochure said.

Candidates appearing for engineering entrance exam JEE Main 2024 will have to undergo frisking and biometric attendance after toilet breaks as well, according to NTA officials.

“The move is aimed at ensuring there are no cases of use of unfair means or proxy attendance. We have strict mechanisms in place already but the idea is to make the exam completely foolproof to ensure there are zero incidents,” NTA Director Subodh Kumar Singh said.

After qualifying JEE Main, candidates can appear for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced used to be the sole prerequisite for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology bachelor’s programmes and is usually hosted by one of the IITs.

The JEE Main 2024 session 2 exam for paper 2 (BTech and BE paper) started today. The exam will be held today in two slots, from 9 am to 12 noon, and between 3 pm and 6 pm.
