The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, in collaboration with Futurense, has launched a nine-month hybrid programme scheduled to begin on October 18. According to a statement, this is India’s first postgraduate certificate in AI/GenAI-powered cybersecurity, and is designed to address emerging threats such as deepfakes, AI-authored phishing, and large language model (LLM) exploits.
IIT Roorkee data breach: A wake-up call for higher education institutions
According to the notice from the institute, the course follows a role-mapped curriculum that prepares learners for positions in Security Operations Centres (SOC), cloud security, and LLM risk governance. Participants will be trained on more than 30 GenAI tools, including LangChain, GPT, SOAR, and SIEM, and will complete four or more real-world projects. The programme also offers optional immersion at the IIT Roorkee campus and readiness for the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) examination.
Classes will be conducted on weekends in live online mode by IIT Roorkee faculty and industry mentors. Learners will also gain access to Futurense’s AI Clinic for applied learning and practice.
Faculty members involved in the programme emphasised the need for cybersecurity professionals who can respond to AI-driven risks. “Cybersecurity today is no longer about protecting networks; it’s more about defending algorithms, AI systems, and cloud pipelines. This programme is designed to prepare professionals for exactly that,” said Dr Gaurav Nayak, Assistant Professor at the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, IIT Roorkee.
Highlighting the focus on bridging new industry requirements, Dr Raghavendra Rohit, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Roorkee, noted that “as GenAI reshapes every layer of the digital stack, the need for security professionals who can govern, simulate, and secure AI-native systems is critical.”
According to Futurense, the collaboration combines academic training with industry mentorship. “AI is already rewriting the rules of cybersecurity. This programme is built to ensure Indian professionals aren’t just reacting; they’re leading the charge,” said Raghav Gupta, Founder and CEO of Futurense.
