The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced a Bachelor of Arts programme in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (BAMSME). This programme will be offered through the School of Vocational Education and Training. It seeks to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to launch and successfully manage business ventures.

The BAMSME programme, beginning in the January 2025 academic session, is designed to address the evolving needs of young entrepreneurs in India. With a curriculum spread over three years and worth 120 credits, the programme is for students who have completed their 10+2 education. Delivered in English via the open and distance learning (ODL) mode, the IGNOU programme will offer flexibility and accessibility for learners across the country.

The programme focuses on analysing market demand before launching a new venture, ensuring profitable business operations, and developing key managerial, interpersonal, and leadership skills, an official statement issued in this regard said. Additionally, the new programme will provide an innovative, competency-based approach to entrepreneurship, preparing students to lead and succeed in the competitive business world, it added.

Eligibility and programme details

– Qualification: Applicants must have completed 10+2 or its equivalent.

– Medium of Instruction: English.

– Duration: The programme spans 3 years, with a validity of up to 6 years.

– Session Availability: The programme is offered in two cycles – January and July.

– Fee Structure: Rs 5,100 per year (Total fee for 3 years = Rs 15,300).

Candidates interested in enrolling in the programme will have to visit the official IGNOU admissions portal – IGNOU admission portal to register.
