CUET UG 2024: Over 13 lakh students register; English remains most popular

CUET UG 2024: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has received over 13 lakh applications for the Common University Entrance Test, Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2024 this year. As per the data shared by NTA, a total of 13,47,618 students registered for CUET UG 2024.
The number of CUET UG registrations has seen a slight decline from last year’s 14.99 lakh registrations. In 2023, over 8.03 lakh male students, 6.96 lakh female students and 16 transgender students registered for the exam. However, this time, 7.17 lakh male students, 6.30 lakh female and 7 transgender students have applied for the UET 2024.
In 2023, a total of 11,16,018 unique students appeared for the exam, out of which 5,13,978 were female, 6,02,028 were male and 12 students belonged to the third gender category. However, the number of total registrations this time is higher than the debut year’s figures of 9.9 lakh.
CUET UG 2024: Subject-wise registrations
Like last year, this year too English has the highest number of test takers. The number of students who have registered for English has increased from 7.19 lakh in 2023 to 10.07 lakh in 2024. This is followed by the general test in which 8.34 lakh students.

In addition to English and General test at the first two spots, the top five subjects with the highest number of registrations are chemistry, physics and mathematics, respectively.
The subjects with the least number of registrations are Sindhi language (8 registrations), Konkani (9 registrations), Maithali (50 registrations), Tibetan (41 registrations), Italian (51 registrations), Dogri (77 registrations), Russian (86 registrations) and Chinese (93 registrations).
In 2023, over 22,000 candidates have scored 100 percentile marks. The maximum top scorers were in English, followed by Biology and Economics. Additionally, in 2023, in subjects such as Accountancy, Biology, Business Studies, Economics, English, History, and Political science, more than 1000 students got 100 percentile scores.
