The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) instructed all affiliated schools to ensure that the registration of 100 per cent of students of classes 9 and 1 studying in their schools is completed by October 16.
The Board has decided that next year when LOC will be filled, no registration of any student will be done by the board.
It has been observed that during LOC submission, some schools are informing the CBSE that their few students were left for registration in the previous year because of the following:
— The student was not well and hospitalised
— The clerk has mistakenly left the student
— Technical error
— Name was deleted
— The student was not at the station, etc
“Such mistakes are not expected from the schools and will be viewed seriously. Hence, during registration, schools are directed to register all their students,” the official CBSE notice stated.
In addition to this, the Board also reminded schools of examination bye-laws which mandate 75 per cent attendance for students to be eligible for board exams 2025. CBSE notice also stated that the Board offers a 25 per cent relaxation only in cases of exigencies such as medical emergencies, participation in national or international sports events, and other serious reasons, provided the necessary documentation is submitted.
The Board has instructed schools to inform students accordingly. “Schools must regularly monitor and maintain accurate attendance records. Attendance registers should be updated daily, signed by the class teacher and the competent authority of the school and be readily available for inspection by CBSE,” the official notice stated.
Additionally, CBSE notice also revealed that the Board may conduct surprise inspections to verify student attendance records. During such inspections, if it is found that the records are incomplete or if it is manifest that students have not been attending regularly, the school may face strict action, including disaffiliation. The students may be disqualified from appearing in the board exams.
Also, no changes to the attendance records will be permitted once the school has submitted the shortage of attendance cases to the CBSE.
