With this, BSEB has become the first board to release both class 10 and class 12 results during the lockdown. Bihar Board had released class 12 or intermediate result in March in which 80.44 per cent of students cleared the exam. Currently, the scrutiny process is on for the class 12 exams. Meanwhile, last year for class 10 results, the pass percentage was at 80.73 per cent.

Durgesh who has obtained the second rank has missed the top slot by 1 mark or by 0.2 per cent. He too is a son of a farmer. While Himanshu Raj from Rohtas district topped the state with 481 marks out of 500 (96.2 per cent), Durgesh Kumar from Samastipur bagged the second position with 480 marks (96 per cent).
Even as BSEB has seen a slight dip in pass percentage as compared to last year, if compared from 2017 and years before, the pass percentage is still very high. About 80.53 per cent of the 14,94,071 students who had taken the board exams this year passed. The pass percentage was 80.73 last year, 68.89 in 2018 and 50.12 in 2017.
Following the 2012 toppers’ scam, the state board had initiated several examination reforms, including OMR sheets. While the pass percentage among girls was 90.28 per cent, the percentage among boys was 84.12 per cent.

The Bihar Board has introduced ‘grace marks’ policy in 2017 under which a student can get up to 8 per cent grace marks. The policy stated that if a student fails in one subject only (by not more than 8 per cent marks or in two subjects by not more than 4 per cent marks in each), he/she will be given the marks he/she is short of
If a candidate still fails in one or two subjects will have the opportunity to appear in the compartment exam. The application process for the compartment exam will begin soon. The board will soon notify the dates of the examination.
Even as the Bihar Board has become the first board to declare class 10 and 12 exam results, the chairperson said that had the evaluation process not be held back due to the lockdown the board had been able to release the result even faster by March-end or April, he said.
The board had checked as many as 90 lakh answer scripts for class 10 exams and 75 lakh for class 12. Every answer script had an individual photograph of the individual student along with barcode and lithocode to prevent cheating or impersonation. The code also enabled the right and immediate uploading of marks via computer at the time of evaluation. The board had ensured at least 6 computers in each evaluation center, the board chairperson said.
BSEB chairperson, Anand Kishor said that the Bihar Board had prepared 10 sets of every exam question paper to eliminate the chances of cheating, He also informed that in objective type questions, there was 20% internal choice for students. Bihar Board had announced to hold 50% of its exam in objective type format to ensure conceptual assessment.
While exams of many school boards are yet to be held and the Bihar Board has released its result. This is due to the new and simple techniques implemented by the board. Also, under the ageis of CM Nitish Kumar, the environment of education in the state has changed, said the education minister.
Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya (SAV) which had given 16 out of 18 students in the top 10 last year, has given only three students this year. Many anticipated it give topper this year too like in 2018 and 2019, however, the school did not perform as expected. This year's topper is from Janta High School, Rohtas.
RK Mahajan, Additional Chief Secretary, Education Department said, "the BSEB has released the result in record time. It is the first-ever education board to declare both class 12 and class 10 results despite lockdown. The Board has been successful in doing so by integrating the use of technology in their evaluation process."

The topper aims to study engineering at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology. “I will take up science in class 11 and 12 and start preparing for the JEE (entrance exam for engineering) from this year. Many Bihar Board students are unable to access result due to heavy load on the website. BSEB official confirms the website will run smoothly after 6 pm.
The Bihar Board developed software to enable real-time marks entry. The software has helped to fasten the evaluation process, as marks were uploaded on it at the end of the evaluation process every day, the release said
The Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya (SAV) which has been giving toppers since the past two years has failed to make a hattrick this time. The topper from the school is Raj Ranjan who obtained 474 marks and scored 7th rank. No student in the top five is from the school.
As many as 4.03 lakh candidates have obtained first division, a majority of candidates - as many as 5.24 lakh - have got second division and 2.75 lakh have passed with third division. As per the board, a total of 2,89,692 candidates failed the exam while the reuslt of four students is pending.
Education Minister Krishnandan Prasad Verma declared the results of Class 10th board examination in the presence of departments additional chief secretary R K Mahajan and BSEB chairman Anand Kishore here at the education department conference hall.
The board had earlier informed that they have used new software that was developed internally to ensure smooth evaluation of the exams. The software had increased the speed of processing the result by 16 per cent as compared to last year.

The toppers will be given a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each, along with a laptop and a kindle e-reader. The second and third topper will get a cash prize of Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 each and the fourth and fifth rank holder from each stream will get Rs 15,000 and a laptop each.

This year, Bihar Board had made significant changes to the exam pattern which included introduction of 50 per cent objective questions. For objective questions, students were provided with a separate OMR sheet. The board had also introduced coded answer sheets this year to avoid any malpractice during the evaluation process
Last year, the result link was not activated till 24 hours of the declaration of the result and the board had hence faced criticism. This year, BSEB had informed to have used tech-based initiatives to declare results on time.
