A video of the incident went viral on social media showing the man, identified as Vikas Negi, collapsing on the pitch after running towards the striker’s end.
Hailing from Uttarakhand, Negi was living with his family in Rohini, Delhi, and was working in a private company in Noida, police said on Wednesday. They said the incident took place around 11.40 am on January 6 at the Arena Cricket Ground in sector 135.
“After he collapsed on the ground, he was admitted to Jaypee Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. The police immediately reached the spot and the body was sent for a postmortem. He died because of a heart attack,” said a police officer.
