BJP MP Sambit Patra (File Photo)BJP’s newly elected MP Sambit Patra was seen sharing some light moments with fellow MPs on the Parliament complex on Friday. Talking about his parents, who live in Odisha, the BJP leader said they were never interested in his political career or his popularity as a prominent party face in TV debates. “They always wanted me to get a government job,” he said.
After Patra won the election from the Puri Lok Sabha seat, his mother, for the first time, welcomed him inside the home with an aarti. His father called some of his friends and told them that now his son will get “regular salary every month”. “For the first time, my son has proved that he is capable of something,” the BJP leader quoted his father as saying. Listening to Patra’s story, one of the MPs in the group said, “That’s the story of our lives.”
English Connection
Introducing a Private Member’s Bill on Friday, Bihar BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy read out the introduction in English. After his speech, Speaker Om Birla remarked, “The voters of your constituency, I believe, understand Hindi better.” As the members broke into a laughter, Rudy said he has occasionally felt the need to remind the House that he can speak in English as well. “You already know this, but there are some new MPs here. There is sometimes a need to improve the image of politicians,” Rudy said.
