Kerala actor assault case: Six convicts get RI for 20 years

They were charged under IPC sections pertaining to gangrape, conspiracy, outraging the modesty of a woman, wrongful confinement, use of criminal force, destruction of evidence, and taking and distributing obscene images.

The district sessions court in Kerala Friday sentenced six accused persons to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in the 2017 case pertaining to the abduction and sexual assault of an actor in a moving vehicle.

Earlier this week, Judge Honey Varghese convicted the first six accused, but acquitted Malayalam movie star Dileep and three others.

The convicted men, who have been sentenced to RI by the Ernakulam district court, are Pulsar Suni, 37, a history-sheeter who allegedly had close links to the film industry; Martin Antony, 33, a driver with a studio in Kochi; B Manikandan, 37, a driver; Vijeesh V P, 38, an electrician; and Salim H, 30, and Pradeep, 31, members of a bus crew. They were accused of being directly involved in the abduction and sexual assault of the actor. They were also directed to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 each.
