The last election for the post of president and governing body of FOSTTA was held in 2012, when Sanjay Jagnani was elected as the president. The election branch of the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA) extended by three days, till Saturday, the deadline to receive nomination forms for membership of the body. The election is set to be held on July 15.
For last eight years, no election has been held for members, including for the post of president, secretary and treasurer of FOSTTA, under which falls 206 markets and over 70,000 textile traders.
The last election for the post of president and governing body of FOSTTA was held in 2012, when Sanjay Jagnani was elected as the president. After two years, Sanwarmal Bhudiya was appointed as the president without an election, with the consent of all board of directors. Budhiya resigned before his term ended in 2016 and was replaced by Manoj Agrawal as working president.
Agrawal, who continues to be the working president, said, “Today was the last day to submit nomination forms. The election branch had received names of members from 185 markets till today. Over 20 markets are still left, so it decided to extend the deadline by three more days.”
Since the last couple of months, textile traders had been demanding elections. Following this, a five-member election committee was set up made to conduct the polls.
FOSTTA spokesperson Rangnath Sharda said, “The election branch will collect names of members received from different markets. These members will vote to elect 41 directors. The directors will finally elect president, vice-president, secretary joint secretary and treasurer to govern FOSTTA.”
