To be like Dawood Ibrahim had been his dream. He not only aped Dawood’s style of dressing, walking and speaking, but also his nature of work. He even kept Dawood’s photograph in his wallet.
Introducing himself as Dawood’s brother, Chotta Don, he inducted youths from his village into his gang, which committed several robberies. The gang also looted a bank in Muradabad where the guard of the bank was brutally murdered, police said.
Police said Chotta Don alias Intzar has been involved in several cases of burglary and robbery in Karnataka. However, he had managed to evade the police net till Friday. According to police, Intzar and his gang used to pose as vegetable and fruit transporters. They travelled in a truck and carried equipment to break into houses. After the burglary, they hid the loot under vegetable and fruit cartons.
“He was wanted in several interstate dacoities and burglaries. In one of the cases, the gang broke the window of a bank in Haveri, Karnataka, with the help of gas cutters and rods and made off with cash and valuables, including gold worth around Rs 1 crore,” ACP (Crime) Ravinder Yadav said.
“The Karnataka Police conducted several raids in several areas to trace Intzar and his accomplices. Despite close encounters with police, he always managed to escape. Karnataka Police then approached the Delhi Police for help to nab the gang members,” Yadav said.
