The ED has alleged that the sale of the land to Millennium Developers was done "through dubious means", and that the sale proceeds were "laundered" by Mirchi. Praful Patel and his wife Varsha Patel are shareholders of Millennium Developers.
According to the ED, Praful Patel’s Millennium Developers Pvt Ltd constructed Ceejay House in 2006-07 and its third and fourth floors were transferred to Mirchi’s wife Hajra Iqbal in 2007 “towards beneficial interest of Mirchi in the land” on which it was built.
While four persons were arrested in connection with the case earlier this year, the police had named Saeed, who was then in Dubai, as a wanted accused. Later, a Look Our Circular (LOC) was issued against him.
During the probe, the police found six more cases where the accused have allegedly duped businessmen. A police officer claimed Ashfaq Towelwala, a businessman and one of those arrested, would first approach a businessman and offer a partnership.
During the probe, police found that Dawood’s nephew, Mohammad Rizwan Shaikh, who was arrested in connection with a threat call to a businessman, had spoken to his Dongri-based cousin following which the latter was called in to record his statement.
The arrest has also brought to light how threats and instructions from top gangsters based out of the country are being issued using audio notes on social media apps that can then be deleted leaving no evidence behind.
