The Railway police have arrested a youth for allegedly robbing Pune-Indore Express train passenger of his cellphone and a bag. The suspect has been identified as Vijay Babulal Makwana (21),a native of Gujarat and currently residing at Bansode Wada in Budhwar Peth.
A complaint was lodged by Avani Shah,who was robbed near Lonavala while travelling a few days ago.
The railway police identified the location of the suspect,Makwana,by tracing the cellphone details and arrested him on Monday.
Police recovered the complainants cellphone worth Rs 19,789 from Makwana besides a gold chain worth Rs 45,000. The railway court remanded the suspect in railway police custody till May 9. Investigation is on to find out if he had committed more thefts on trains between Pune and Lonavala.
The police team which arrested Makwana comprised senior inspector Mahendra Rokde,assistant inspector Mahendra Bagate,havaldar Shrikant Bhosale,constables Amardeep Salunke,Ramakant Karle,Dinesh Bornate and Prashant Taral.
