Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students are a confused lot about their admission to Class XI in the absence of original marksheets. While the State Education Department has made it clear that provisional admission will be accepted for junior colleges, students and parents allege that now it is the CBSE schools that refuse to grant admissions on the basis of provisional marksheets.
I have applied to three CBSE schools in the city and none has confirmed my admission because I neither have a marksheet nor a migration certificate. Since I did not appear for the board exam and had taken the school exam,Im getting only provisional admission in junior colleges which will get confirmed only after the mid-term exam. The schools or the students have absolutely no information on the mid-term exams, said Parul Deshpande,a student.
Jayashree Venkatraman, principal,DAV,Aundh, said,As of now, were issuing provisional marksheets to students on the school letterhead. We have come to know that the marksheets have been dispatched by CBSE Delhi to the Chennai region on July 2. As Maharahstra comes under the Chennai region,we expect to get the marksheets this week. As soon as we get them,we will send SMSes to students to come and collect their marksheets.
From this year,CBSE will give out a four-page marksheet with details of attitude analysis, personality assessment etc. The idea is to make a paradigm shift from marks to judging soft skills of students.
Most of my friends who did not take the board exams and want to continue in the same school have not faced such a problem, only those who did not take the school exam and want to change schools are in a fix. Basically, schools are giving preference to their own students over students from other schools, said a student.
