I used to travel quite a lot; I must have taken about 300 flights in 2008-2009. All that incessant moving around, plus all the food that I had on the flights, made me unwell to the point of hospitalisation, recalls Jaideep Sippy, founder and CEO of The Style Kitchen. I was,to say the least, flabbergasted here I was, still young (I hadnt even reached my 30s),yet my lifestyle was clearly pushing me towards my grave. That is when I decided to move towards, what I call, healthy living. But there were no options in the country offering me the kind of lifestyle changes I wanted. That is how The Style Kitchen was born. However, before the wellness bug bit him, infecting this feverish state of happiness and health,Sippy was a dynamic force in India’s luxury industry and held important positions with brands such as Louis Vuitton.
The Style Kitchen works in the health and wellness industry, giving everybody the choice of having a healthy lifestyle. We want to build a community which wants to experience the pleasure of living a healthy life everyday, says Sippy.
But,can healthy food taste good too? The taste and the nutritional value of food are two completely different aspects. The tricky part is getting both right, which often isnt the case, he says. With a team of eight,Sippys new brand,’Missisippy’,which will deal with health food,is set to launch soon, and Life, the first product,is his attempt at striking a balance between these two key factors. Made of Amaranth, seeds and berries,it is a cereal-like food which can be had with milk, yoghurt or apple juice and will be available in five different flavours. When launched,it will be available at well-designed kiosks of corporate campuses. “Many corporate campuses have Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs),where enough attention isn’t given to the health aspect of the food. Employees in these offices are paid well so they don’t mind spending on the junk food; plus, they work long hours,so they tend to eat whatever is available,no matter how unhealthy. This is one of the reasons why we have targetted these areas,” says Sippy.
But why use the relatively unknown Amaranth seeds to make his product? Sippy explains, saying,Whole grain Amaranth seeds are unusual,as they contain all essential amino acids. For example, wheat contains only a certain number of proteins; the remainder must be ingested by consuming other food products. They also contains almost thrice the fibre found in wheat.
Sippy has also tried to make his product as simple as possible for use. Most people do not prefer to consume healthy food items, because even if they manage to get the right ingredients, they dont know what to do with them. I have simplified things,by making it ready to eat,so that all that needs to be done with Missisippy Life is to add milk, apple juice or yoghurt, and the dish is complete, he says.
Missisippy, upon its launch, will be available across Pune, and the plan is to gradually spread it across the country,to Bengaluru,Hyderabad,Noida,Gurgaon and Mumbai.
