Breweries and restaurants across the cities gear up with special German menus and brews to celebrate the much-awaited Oktoberfest
October brings with it the celebrations of the Oktoberfest. Like a drop of ink on a blotting paper, the high spirits of Die Weisn, popularly known as the Oktoberfest has spread from the state of Bavaria to different pockets across the globe and Pune is not exception. With a number of restaurants, breweries and bars offering various Oktoberfest specials,beer-lovers in the city are celebrating this German beer festival with vigour and enthusiasm.
The first microbrewery in the city,Doolally Brewing Company is offering a variety of beers made by their in-house brewmaster Oliver Schauf,an expert in crafting German brews. Oktoberfest to Germany is what Diwali is to India. It is a complete riot for people of all generations. We have brewed Märzen, the historic forerunner of the Oktoberfestbier. We are going to make sure that our guests won’t be able to put their mugs down once they fill it with this magical beverage, says Schauf, who is geared up for the festivities. Along with the authentic beer, one can also imbibe the festive feel of the Oktoberfest with peppy music and an extensive menu from Germany.
TJ’s Brew Works at the Amanora Town Centre, believes in hosting month-long celebrations with a generous spread of German cuisine to compliment the four new flavours of beer introduced for the Oktoberfest this year. Devil’s Dunkel,Premium Bock,Spice Weiss and Uber Premium, introduced by TJ’s Brew Works are traditional German hand-crafted beers that tend to be more bitter in taste than the usual commercial beers. However, they compliment the German spread that consists of scrumptious pretzels, available in soft, hard, savoury and sweet varieties, salmon canapes, liver dumpling soup, asparagus soup and various types of sausages and salads. We have decorated the interiors with drapes and logos that symbolize the celebration of the festival. There are special costumes related to the celebration of the Oktoberfest that our waiters and waitresses will sport throughout the month, says Saurabh Khatri, marketing at TJs Brew Works.
The Courtyard by Marriott have ventured into the festivities of Oktoberfest for the first time this year.
The festival this year witnesses many novices including Momo Cafe at Courtyard by Marriott,City Centre and Out of the Blue. More and more people are travelling to different countries all over the world. Oktoberfest has become a celebration across the globe for the love of the beverage beer. We don’t want to miss out on all the fun,so we jumped right into the bandwagon, says Nipun Paul,Marketing Head,Out of the Blue, where the month-long festival will end with a grand Halloween Bash. The restaurant will serve a variety of beers along with cuisines from across the world.
Moving away from the traditional German beers, the East Street Cafe prefers to introduce innovative variation of the German beverage with special beer cocktail pitchers. For those few who want to join in on the Ocktoberfest fun but don’t seem to have an acquired taste for beer, the cafe will introduce nine non-beer cocktail pitchers like Lemon Mint Honeysuckle,a rum based cocktail, chilli sugar,a vodka and tequila mixture and more.
