An offence has been registered against the engineers who constructed the cement wall in the garden of Marvel Diva Society on Magarpatta Road that collapsed on January 26,killing a nine-year-old boy identified as Salil Swapnesh Ramchandran.
The deceased boys father Swapnesh Ramchandran,a resident of Marvel D 301,Marvel Diva society on Magarpatta road,had lodged a complaint with the Hadapsar police on Monday.
Police said Salil was playing with his twin brother Sahil and other friends in the garden area of the Society. The kids were playing near the decorative wall in the garden. The wall collapsed on Salil around 5.30 pm. Salil was rushed to Novel Hospital in Hadapsar,where he succumbed to injuries around 11 pm.
Senior police inspector Pandharinath Mandhare said an accidental death case was registered initially as the parents of the deceased boy were not in a position to speak or lodge a first information report (FIR).
On Monday,the FIR was registered against the engineer who constructed the wall. Police booked the engineer under Section 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code for alleged negligence. Sub-inspector S R Mane is investigating the case.
Meanwhile,a spokesperson for Marvel Realtors said a in a statement released on Tuesday,We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and are grieving with them. We have been providing all the necessary support to the authorities and accommodating with the requirements of the investigation. Since the matter is under investigation,we will not be able to comment on this.
Salil was a student of Class IV at Symbiosis International School. The police said his father works with a private firm in Yerawada.
