Pune: Visual of courier bag helps cops crack brutal murder of migrant worker
Upon checking CCTV footage from cameras on the approach roads to the location, Pimpri Chinchwad police found footage of the deceased riding a bike with two others, going to a liquor shop to buy alcohol the night before the murder.

Pimpri Chinchwad police have solved the brutal murder of a migrant worker with just one clue available — a visual of a courier bag obtained from a CCTV camera. Police have arrested a watchman and a courier delivery worker in connection with the case, in which even the name of the deceased was not known till arrests were made.
Early morning on Tuesday, a man’s body was found behind the compound of the district hospital in Aundh. The man had been bludgeoned to death with a heavy rock. Initially, police could find no leads about the identity of the deceased, or any clues about the suspect or motive.
Upon checking CCTV footage from cameras on the approach roads to the location, Pimpri Chinchwad police found footage of the deceased riding a bike with two others, going to a liquor shop to buy alcohol the night before the murder. While the camera had captured the deceased and possible suspects, there were no clues about their identities.
As police examined the footage closely, they discovered that one of the other two individuals was carrying a bag typically used by courier delivery executives. Pursuing the lead, police found the suspect had entered an alley in the same area, where police also found a courier company office. An inquiry at the office revealed the identity of the suspect as Shiv Mangal Singh (38), a native of Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, and working as a courier delivery executive for some time. His cell phone location revealed that he was on the move and passing through Ahmednagar district. It also came to light that Singh and one more person were travelling on a private bus, which the police intercepted in Washim district. Police arrested Singh and his accomplice Somdatta Dube (22) of Chitrakoot who worked as watchman in Pune.
“A probe revealed that Singh and Dube had been working in Pune and the deceased Jitendra Tripathi alias Pappu (30), who was from their native village, had come to Pune less than week ago in search of work. The two had bludgeoned Tripathi to death following repeated fights with him since his arrival. They strangled and bludgeoned him to death following a fight the previous night,” said an officer from Pimpri Chinchwad police.
