WPCA and Cypress SF tasted victory at the Rangachar Memorial Veterans’ Cricket Tournament held at the NCL cricket ground, entering the next round with easy victories.

In the first match,WPCA took on Computer and Media Dealers Association. Batting first,WPCA scored at a brisk rate to post a decent total of 164/6 in their 20 overs. Sunil Mandan top-scored with 37,while D. Jagdale contributed 30 runs to the total. Gopal Bahirat took two wickets for the bowling side, conceding just 25 runs.

Computer and Media Dealers had two overs docked as a penalty, and had only 18 overs to reach the target. This itself might have proved to be the decisive factor,as they managed to reach 147/7 in the reduced quota, thanks to a composed half-century from Debu Banerjee, who scored 56 off 64 deliveries.

Pritam Shetty nearly scored another half century, but was unfortunate to lose his wicket at 48.

Ejaz Shaikh was the pick of the bowlers for WPCA,finishing with figures of 4/31,as his team managed to restrict their opponents in the reduced quota of overs to wrap up victory.

In the second match, home team NCL posted a rather mediocre total, only managing 108 runs before being bowled out in 20 overs by their opponents Cypress SF. M Vadnere scored a blistering 36-ball fifty to bring some respectability to his team’s total.

The Cypress bowling attack performed brilliantly, taking wickets at regular intervals. Bhushan Deshpande took two wickets in two consecutive balls to deal a crushing blow to the home side. He finished with figures of 3/10. Ravi Shinde also took three wickets for Cypress to restrict the NCL batting lineup.

Mansingh Desai and Vikram Rajput batted well to clinch the victory, with the former scoring 36 and the latter remaining unbeaten on 44,as Cypress finished at 109/4. Vadnere performed well with the ball as well, taking two wickets, but it was all in vain as NCL failed to capitalise on their homeground advantage.
