Soon,students passing out from colleges in the city will no longer have to worry about getting a job. The UT Administration is going to impart skill development training for them in various fields and that too with an assurance of employment.
Chandigarh has been selected to launch the pilot project along with two other states in the North East for imparting skills to the outgoing graduate students in colleges.
According to officials of the UT Administration,the pilot project will be launched from the upcoming session as part of the union governments skill development mission. As per the scheme,the students will be imparted training in beauty and health care,banking and finance etc. The UT Administration will tie up with private sector agencies who provide such skills to students on payment basis.
Speaking with Chandigarh Newsline,UT Finance cum Education Secretary V K Singh,said,The idea is to impart the skills to the students as soon as they pass out or to those who are in the final year so that they do not have to sit at home idle.
Government College,Sector 11 and Government College,Sector 42 have been chosen to start the project with. Soon tenders will be floated for choosing partnership with the UT Administration for imparting the skills depending on the industry needs. The UT Administration will bear the expenses for imparting the skills and will also tie up with banks for the loans for students.
However,the tender will be allotted as per two clauses,reduced fee per students and an assurance to get the student a job depending on the skill he has acquired.
Also,as a token,Rs 20 lakh has been sanctioned in the budget for 2013-14 which was announced recently by the UT Administration.
