Unplugged

If you ask me as an ardent cricket follower,I feel the team selection for the T20 World Cup was wrong...

IPL parties put the spotlight on ARJUN RAMPAL. But it’s the gamut of roles he is playing that will keep him in the news

Have the controversies regarding the IPL parties hosted by your wife Mehr Jessia and you troubled you?
If you ask me as an ardent cricket follower,I feel the team selection for the T20 World Cup was wrong. With IPL being a carnival, parties were designed accordingly. Also the players got two to three days off before each game. So they were well rested. Foreign players like Chris Gayle and Mike Hussey also partied and played tremendously well. Also,Indians couldn’t play on fast wickets and short balls in the West Indies. Is that anything to do with partying?

It is rumoured that parties may be banned from the fourth season of IPL.
Are you upset?

That is their choice. If they don’t want to do parties let them not do parties. Players can come to my night club and party.

Moving from cricket, are you hoping Raajneeti will help continue your dream run?
I hope so. I don’t think any of the characters are really defined as heroes or villains. That’s the beauty of the script for me. When Prakashji (Jha) came to me with the script five years ago,he wanted me to play the character of Bheem. And I was absolutely thrilled, because the character showcased a gamut of emotions.

Is your character modelled on any of our country’s politicians?
I observed a lot of young politicians like Sachin Pilot,Rahul Gandhi,Milind Deora,a young Rajiv Gandhi to see their body language. I play an educated politician,so I observed only educated ones.

Has your role as a politician inspired you turn politician in real life too?
No. After I have seen politics closely,I know it is a lot of sacrifice and lot of work. You need certain qualities for it,and I don’t have them. But if I see power being misused I will always raise my voice as a citizen.

With Don 2,Ra.One and the remake of Stepmom in your plate,do you see the medley of roles helping your career graph soar?
After Don,Om Shanti Om and Rock On!!,I have been getting the kind of work that I love to do. I am mixing it up well and it is working for me. I am keen on doing more edgy roles. Safe roles are boring. They give you just three expressions. After getting the National Award for Rock On!!,I’m more confident and proud as an actor.

The remake of Stepmom is much talked about. How would you define your role?
It is a very emotional role. I play a man who is a husband, lover and father. The character will touch you.

Shah Rukh Khan said that he is making Ra.One for his kids. What about you?
I am making it for all children. It is a film they will thoroughly enjoy. The idea is also that ladies enjoy action. It is a super hero film which is hugely experimental. Shah Rukh is very clear about his vision,so is director Anubhav Sinha. We now need to achieve it.

Do you have plans of launching your night club LAP in Mumbai?
I definitely want to launch LAP in Mumbai. It will happen soon.
