At 8 pm,as the crowd called out his name in unison, and the LED lights flashed ‘Nothing But The Beat’,David Guetta ran up on stage, took his position behind the console and for the next two hours,he raised the tempo and made Pune dance to his tunes – from Love is Gone,Sexy Bitch,to Where Them Girls At,Titanium,Without You and many, many more tracks by the Grammy Award winning DJ and music producer. Thoroughly enjoying being up there and controlling the vibe,Guetta yelled,”Before coming to India I had no idea… This is amazing.”

Held at Amanora Park Town, this Eristoff Invasion 2012 festival was well organised by Only Much Louder in association with UKNY Music,a UK-based music company, and UTV Bindass. The gates to the show opened at 3 pm. The lane for the tickets were arranged alphabetically thus doing away with winding queues. Once inside, the crowd – a lively mix of people from Mumbai and Pune dressed in casual summerwear – made its way closer to the stage pit. On one side there were food counters selling shawarmas, pizzas, pastas and other yummy tidbits, while on the other there were funky accessories like neon lights, blingy glares and bright blue Afro-wigs. Almost everyone donned one of these psychedelic add-ons. The show opened with Dualist Inquiry followed by DJ Anish Sood who played a great set prior to Guetta’s. And,while Sood sprayed out groovy beats,Guetta arrived backstage, met a couple of fans and was even presented with platinum discs by T Suresh, managing director,EMI India. A short photo-op later,he rushed up on stage and the rest is a show that Pune will remember for a long time. Not only because Guetta expertly raised, dropped and again raised the tempo, but also because there was a surprise visit by Akon. Guetta invited the singer on stage and the crowd cheered louder. When Guetta played a track and decided to call it ‘Mumbai’,Akon put in a word for Aamche Pune. Pune won,of course, and the DJ named the track after the city. At around 10 pm,Akon was back on stage. “The night can’t be complete because Akon hasn’t even sung one song,” quipped Guetta. Together, they performed the single ‘Crank It Up’ for the first time. Guess,Akon made up for the last time he left his fans disappointed when his Pune gig was cancelled at the last minute. As of today,he stands forgiven,we heard the crowd say. All’s well that ends so well, right?
