Two medicos die on old highway

Two medical students died on old Pune-Mumbai highway near Wadgaon about 35 km from Pune when their motorcycle hit an unidentified vehicle on Saturday morning.

Two medical students died on old Pune-Mumbai highway near Wadgaon about 35 km from Pune when their motorcycle hit an unidentified vehicle on Saturday morning. Both were run over by vehicles coming from behind after they fell down.

As per information given by officers at Wadgaon Maval police station,the students have been identified as Yogesh Mahendra Shelar,26,from Gangapur Road in Nashik and Pradip Anand Bangar,23,from Thane. Both were students of Maharashtra Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER) in Talegaon Dabhade.

The incident came to light after some of the villagers spotted their bodies on the road about 7 am. Maruti Ingawale,inspector with Vadgaon Maval police station said,“They were traveling from Lonavala to Vadgaon. The accident might have taken place between 6 am and 7 am. Yogesh was riding the Pulsar bike which was badly damaged in the front and was lying in the middle of the road on the lane leading to Pune

The police took them to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead. Dr Yashwant Waghmare,deputy registrar with MIMER,said,“Shelar had completed his graduation last year and was doing his internship with us. Bangar was a second year student. We have lost not only two good students but two helping friends.”

Ingawale added,“Both were not wearing helmets. We are now trying to find the other vehicles involved in the accident.”

Constable Mauli Yeole with Wadgaon Maval police station,who first visited the spot,said,“Pradip had severe head injuries and could not be recognised. Yogesh had injuries on chest. Their bodies were handed over to their relatives in the afternoon.”
