Two members of a Dhule- based family were killed along with the driver of their car when it rammed into the back of a truck,near Ozarde village around 6.15 am on Friday.
The police have identified the deceased as Namdev Dayaram Thite (40),his two-year-old nephew Parth Jitendra Thite and car driver Kanhiyaa Bhimrao Beldar (25). Parth’s father Dr Jitendra (38),mother Yamini (37) and elder brother Harshal (9) were injured in the mishap. They have been admitted to a hospital in Nigdi for treatment. The family had returned from a holiday in Sri Lanka and was on its way home to Dhule via Pune.
The Talegaon Dabhade police said that Thite family hails from Shirpur in Dhule district. Jitendra’s elder brother Namdev,a registrar at a Shirpur college,had gone to Mumbai to pick them up.
Police said the driver had lost control and the car collided with a truck moving ahead. The impact was so severe that Parth and Namdev,who were sitting on the front seat,died on the spot along with driver Beldar.
Local residents then rushed to the spot and informed the police. A team of Talegaon Dabhade police and highway safety patrol went to the spot. Police said the car was badly damaged. A crane had to be used for extricating the car from the truck,which took nearly four hours.
