The delay in start of the AIEE Examinations on Sunday after an alleged paper leak in Uttar Pradesh led to chaos, but most outstation students, particularly from Kerala, could board the Ernakulam Express as it was held up for them for an hour.
Most students and their parents from Kerala who had booked tickets in the Pune-Ernakulam Express, which departs from at 6.45 pm from Pune on Sundays, could board the train rescheduled by an hour after members of Pune Malayalee Federation (PMF) approached the deputy station manager at Pune railway station.
The postponement of B.Arch exam for AIEEE candidates who missed it as they had to appear for AFMC exam, was, meanwhile, appreciated by the students. Paper I,Bachelor of Engineering (BE) of AIEEE scheduled for 9.30 am began after noon and paper II (BArch) supposed to start at 2 pm started at 4 pm. AFMC exam supposed to begin at 2.30 was pushed to 4.30 pm. Those who missed the BArch test as they appeared for AFMC,too, would be able to give the exam on May 8.
Ankush Pathare, who a candidate for both AIEEE and AFMC,said,The confusion led to a lot of tension. I could hardly concentrate. After the first paper,we came to know that students who had to appear for AFMC could appear for BArch on May 8. I got an additional week to prepare. Sneha Deshmukh, another student appearing for both the exams was also relieved.
The PMF had a tough time rescheduling the Ernakulam Express. Rajan Nair,PMF president, said,The authorities were first reluctant. After we got in touch with people in Delhi, they agreed to extend it by an hour. We are happy we could help about 400 students and parents.
Y K Singh, public relations officer,Pune Railway Division, said,After the some parents and students came to us we pushed the train timing back by about an hour.
The train left at 7.45. Some students allotted Khadki exam centre were allowed to board after a one-minute stop was arranged at Khadki station.
Some students still could not manage to catch the train. Harilal S Sukumaran, allotted Khadkawasla exam centre could not make it to the station in time. Sujeeth,Harilals brother said,PMF members made arrangements for our stay in Pune for a night and helped us book a train to Goa. We have a connecting train from there.
