Tough contest between NCP and BJP

The newly formed panel covers the entire electoral wards represented by corporators Vishal Tambe and Santosh Pharande of NCP.

The newly formed panel covers the entire electoral wards represented by corporators Vishal Tambe and Santosh Pharande of NCP. The electoral ward represented by BJP MLA and corporator Bhimrao Tapkir too is part of the panel. The area which was merged in the corporation nearly a decade back has no slums and mainly comprises housing societies.

Tambe, who is among key frontrunners to contest the polls on NCP ticket says that he has been associated with the area even before it was merged in the corporation limits. “Having done major infrastructure work for the area,he said that the zero slum area now has all the infrastructure. I have even proposed for a garden as well as for the flyover from Shankar Math to Bharti Vidyapeeth,”says Tambe.

The NCP that has been confident of getting its candidates elected from the area is still recovering from the defeat of its candidate in bypoll for Khadakwasla assembly, that included the area under the panel. The party is going to be cautious during the civic poll and is looking for strong contenders. There is hunt going on for women candidate from OBC category.

Meanwhile, the confidence of BJP is high after its corporator Bhimrao Tapkir got majority votes from the area in the assembly bypoll. “There are many persons keen to contest from this area. Even as the party will be consulting me for the names,I would not want to reveal any names till the party decides,”says Tapkir, who would play a major role in deciding BJP candidates from the area.
