Thursday-The new weekend

Clubs and lounges across the city are experimenting with Thursday-special themes to pull in crowds

Clubs and lounges across the city are experimenting with Thursday-special themes to pull in crowds

When Gaurav Magoo of Oak Lounge wanted to launch Latin Evening,Go Latino as a weekly event,he consciously zeroed-in on Thursday over a weekend. “Since our place was relatively new,we wanted to encourage more footfalls and position Oak Lounge as a happening place. All other clubs and lounges keep hosting different events on weekends and we were looking for exclusivity,” said Magoo,Food & Beverage Director,Oakwood Premier Pune.

Just two weeks back,Stone Water Grill,Koregaon Park, introduced UK Funky Vocal House Nights on Thursdays, which is a blend of upbeat electronic style with rhythmic grooves from the dance floors of UK.

With clubs and bars across the city, going all out to pull the crowd with gigs,themed-parties and special food and beverage menus on Thursday nights, the week day is becoming synonymous to weekends.

Hard Rock Cafe’s Thursday band nights, that mostly features local bands, witnesses a large turnout. “The footfall is encouraged by the fact that the industries in the vicinities like Ranjangaon,Sanaswadi are closed on Thursdays. This prompts corporate crowd to unwind in the city,” says Swarnendu Roy,General Manager,Hard Rock Cafe,Pune.

Despite having an odd day like Thursday as his weekly off,24-year-old Nitin Awade,a regular partygoer, doesn’t feel that the week day is any different than a weekend. “I do not have to think hard to select a party destination because the city is abuzz with so many unique events,” says Awade,a Wipro employee.

While Oak Lounge’s Latin Evenings,Go Latino is about Latin beats, the theme ‘Bladder Burst Thursdsays’ at High Spirits is about flowing beer. The ‘Bladder Burst Thursdays’,is a liquid buffet where one can drink as much beer as they want, till they submit to visiting the washroom. “The crowd is as big as what we see on the weekends. We are planning to introduce more of such unique events,” says Khodu Irani, owner,High Spirits.
