Trio which tried to blow open ATMs in Pune Rural arrested

PUNE RURAL police have arrested a gang of three for allegedly trying to steal money by blasting open ATM machines with explosives.

Police said the accused Vishal Palhare (20), Aniket Shinde (20) are both residents of Shrigonda, Ahmednagar district, and Aditya Rokde (20) is from Shirur, Pune district.

A release stated that some persons had tried to blast open an ATM machine located in the market of Pargaon village, on Kedgaon Chaufula to Shirur road in May this year.

A probe revealed that the explosion was aimed at stealing money. However, the explosion failed and so the theft was averted. An offence was lodged in this case at Yavat police station.

Meanwhile, two other similar attempts to blast open the same ATM machine in Pargaon were reported on July 6 and July 26. Police said even these two attempts failed.

Police teams led by inspector Avinash Shilimkar and Assistant Inspector Rahul Gawade of the local crime branch conducted parallel investigations into these incidents.

The police got clues about the accused from videos captured by CCTV cameras at the crime scene.

Police arrested the three accused on Sunday. A court remanded them to police custody till September 21 for further investigation. Police said the accused conducted the explosions using gelatin. They have launched a search for the man who provided the accused with explosive material.
