Special Judge J D Kulkarni granted anticipatory bail to three employees of Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) who were accused of indulging in irregularities while procuring CNG low-floor buses.
The three,along with two officials of Ashok Leyland,have been accused of carrying out irregularities in the procedure for taking samples in connection with procurement of CNG low-floor buses ordered for Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Deepak Anil Nande (53),scientist,Vitthal Shondiram Chavan (47),lab assistant and M H Bawadekar (52) in-charge,technical department of CIRT got anticipatory bail on a personal surety amount of Rs 25,000. The court has directed the accused to be present in the court every Wednesday between 3pm and 4pm and cooperate with interrogation until charge sheet is filed. The three have been charged under Sections 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy),420 (cheating),465 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the CBI,a CIRT official unofficially informed representatives of Ashok Leyland that the plywood samples submitted by them have failed the fire test. This gave Ashok Leyland the chance to manage fresh samples. They also marked the fresh samples with old sticker number themselves,tested them as per specifications and sent fitness report by giving the reference of first samples and induced Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to accept the same while the test report in question were forged.
