Three persons have been arrested in Tuesdays accident case in which a 27-year-old call centre employee,Mayur Gujar, was hit by a speeding car and his body was dumped near the racecourse. Gujar died of injuries after his bike collided with a car on B T Kawade Road. Wanawadi police said they arrested Jitesh Shivaji Garud (31),who was driving the car,his brother Ravindra Shivaji Garud (33) and Jitendra Janardan Gaikwad (34).
Wanawadi police senior inspector Bajirao Mohite said,Jitesh and Ravindra are bookies at the racecourse. Gaikwad deals in solar heaters. Interrogation revealed that after their car,driven by Jitesh,collided with the Activa bike Mayur was riding,he fell down and was seriously injured. They picked him up and headed towards Sassoon hospital. There they saw some policemen at the gate and got scared. They decided to take him back. They came to racecourse area and dumped the body near the walking plaza.
Kisan Mengade,an employee with a private company who had seen the accident,had come to the spot in the morning to check. There he told police the number of the car and gave them description of the suspects. Mayurs body was found after some residents informed police about it. We could arrest the three because of inputs by Mengade, said Mohite. He was felicitated by police commissioner Meeran Borwankar with a reward of Rs 10,000. The three suspects were booked under IPC sections 289 (negligent driving) 304 (causing death by negligence) 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) besides relevant sections of Motor Vehicle Act.
