After two failed attempts to appoint a consultant for designing and implementing a system for equitable distribution of water in areas under it,the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration on Friday tabled another appointment proposal.
In the proposal tabled before the standing committee,the administration has sought the approval for signing a memorandum of understanding with TCE Consulting Engineers Ltd to carry out work worth Rs 36.71 crore.
The consultant will have to prepare a detailed project report and get it approved within six months,while it has to undertake water audit and identify leakage in the next six months.
The work of Rs 36.71 crore has to be carried out by the consultant in five years and maintenance and repair work for the next five.
The consultant will identify leakages and hydraulic defects,carry out a water audit,measure commercial use of water,increase capacity of water pumping stations and automisation.
The consultant will have to carry out constructing jackwell and pumphouse near Khadakwasla Dam for increasing efficiency of water supply system throught closed pipeline. The work will also include supply of water to the cantonment water works from Parvati through pipelines. The city has been reeling under water shortage in summer for the past two years and there have been complaints that some parts of the city did not receive enough water while there was excess in some parts.
