The police on Thursday registered yet another offence against Bharat Gehlot, the prime suspect in Jayanti Chhajed’s murder that took place on Wednesday. The Khadak police have registered an offence of criminal breach of trust (IPC section 406) against Gehlot for theft of jewellery worth Rs 2.81 lakh from another jewellery shop.
According to the police,Nagnath Chandmal Chhajed, husband of deceased Jayanti Chhajed and owner of Nagraj Jewellers and Dinesh Champala Bagla of Ranakpur Jewelllers had a mutual understanding wherein Chhajed used to get readymade jewellery from Bagla to show the designs to his customers and return it on the same day. Four months ago,Chhajed introduced his aide Gehlot to Bagla and told him to hand over all the jewellery to him, police said. On Wednesday at around 1.55pm,Gehlot went to Ranakpur Jewelers and collected five gold necklaces of 150 grams worth Rs 2.81 lakh from him. Bagla assumed that Gehlot must have handed over the jewellery to Chhajed as he had done earlier.
As mentioned in the complaint,Bagla learned of Jayanti Chhajeds murder and went to Chhajeds residence around 8pm after closing his shop.
Since Nagnath Chhajed was not at home,Bagla waited downstairs and overheard that Gehlot was absconding.
Police said that he called Chhajed on his mobile and told him that Gehlot had visited his shop and taken the five gold necklaces with him. Chhajed told him that Gehlot, however, had not come to the shop to give the five necklaces to him.
