The incident took place between 8 and 8.30 pm when Sutapa Das and Sahebani Orah, members of the national women’s rugby team had gone for dinner. Apparently, the thief, who seemed to be acquainted with the girls’ routine, cut the metal net outside the bathrooms and entered room number two where the two girls stay. The police are investigating further.

“We went to the canteen at 8 pm. Normally,I take my mobile phone along, but yesterday,I put it for charging. When we returned,we saw the clothes scattered and drawers open. Room number two is located on the rear side of Hostel A in the campus and the thief also broke metal nets of other windows of room number three and four. “He did not enter our room as we were inside till about 8.45 pm,” said Roshni Hormusjee, another team member.

The facility has 30 members of the girls’ rugby team who are here for a training for the Asian Championships in November. Two of the girls also tried calling the thief on the stolen mobile, which he surprisingly answered. “He was answering our call till 9 am on Tuesday. He also told us that he was interested in money and that he would return other things. We informed the police and they are investigating,” said Naazeesh Mirza,a team member.

“We contacted the authorities of the facility and they immediately deployed four guards who were patrolling the area in the night. We have shifted the girls on the first floor,” said Leena Bal,team manager.
