On Friday evening,the 400 odd people gathered at the Hyatt Regency could hardly stop laughing. The hotel and Standard Chartered Priority Banking hosted Ashvin Gidwani’s smash hit comedy,History of India: VIR-itten starring one of the country’s best stand-up comedians – Vir Das. Gadi Hassin,GM,Hyatt regency kickstarted the evening with his easy humour after which Vir Das took hold of the stage for a good couple of hours. Das chronologically narrated major events in history from the time of the vedas to present times. From the Mughal kings to the British rule in India,from Bollywood stars to our politicians,Das spared nobody! A twisted,funny,out of the box account of our country’s history that had elders and youngsters rolling on the floor laughing,well almost! The invitees included Shefali and Sanjiv Bajaj,Kimmy and Shantanu Sheorey,Subhadra and Pradeep Rathi,Ritu and Arun Nathani,Ritu Kochar,Reshma and Tarun Sharma,Luc and Soumya Didon,Mina and Chandrakant Sanghvi,Mukesh and Akshay Malhotra. Post the show,guests were treated to a lavish dinner of a variety of cuisines put together by executive chef Hemant Mehta.

Blissed out

On Saturday,the city’s who’s-who were spotted at the opening of Bliss. The newly launched store at Phoenix Market City made shoppers smile with its quirky interiors,play of fun colours and warm ambience. The lovely Amrita Thapar hosted the event and joined owner,Mallika Desai Thakkar,in mingling with guests. The collection at Bliss includes unique designs by over 60 designers and we spotted Varsha Chordia,Damayanti Raje Bhosle,Seema Malhotra,Sujata Nanda,Govind Thakkar and Diya Kumari Jadeja among others browsing through the collection of accessories,apparel,and home decor. The launch started at 4 pm and went on through the evening as invitees sauntered in and shopped the hours away.

Flying High

The sky is where it all starts for Air Dogs,a new television show on Discovery Turbo. Each episode will have the fastest,the oldest and the most unusual planes soaring up in the sky. Air force pilot Captain Robert J Reichert aka ‘Rooster’ and film-maker Mark Miller will take their love for aviation to extreme levels. Whether mummifying a fighter jet,testing their skills in a Red Bull racer,flying loops with the Snowbirds,attempting landing on a moving RV or negotiating their way into the cockpit of a Lancair P IV,the duo will provide adrenaline-fuelled entertainment. The show will be aired on Tuesdays at 9.30 pm.
