If prejudice haunts people who are against those genres of western classical music, that they deem as dull, slow and boring, then internationally acclaimed pianist,Gilles Vonsattel, who will be performing in the city is all set to dispel these doubts from the minds of the hardest cynics with his effortless alters between Bach and Beethoven over the black and white keys of the piano.

Speaking more about his performance he says,“To be very honest even now after having played in front of so many diverse audiences across the world I still get nervous before a concert. Its only after I have settled into my normal shoes in front of the piano that my carefree self takes over and I play according to my normal style. A very important fact that I have learnt as far as playing music is concerned is not to stay back and gloat over a performance but get up and move on to the next one. That is precisely what I try to do every time I perform.”

Vonsattel, has had the honour of playing with diverse orchestra groups across the globe, speaking more about those performances and his own distinctive style he says,“each musician, small or big brings along his or her own sense of creativity and presents a new facet or dimension of music that has previously been untouched or uncovered, and that is one of the biggest positives that I have garnered from playing with orchestra groups worldwide. I do blend in with the music styles of these music groups but at the same time also try to balance out my own distinct style as far my own performance is concerned.”

From performing with music groups across the globe to interacting with a wide array of musicians Vonsattel has done it all,and terms these experiences as invaluable gains as far as music is concerned. “An important aspect of being a professional musician is the ability to be able to grasp and absorb as much as one can about the finer nuances of various music styles. Another important aspect is the ability to be unprejudiced as far as artists are concerned which I can say for a fact is a very tough thing to be able to do. These things go a long way in making an artiste good.”

On his performance in the city he feels that the openness of the city to various music styles is a major plus and hopes to be able to deliver the goods accordingly. “Its important to be hungry for quality, expanding horizons,or ideas ,and also be able to connect with people through music. It is one of the few things we as musicians stive to achieve, through our performances.”

(Vonsattel will be performing this Friday at 7pm at Mazda Hall,Camp)
