What’s it about?

From the very first episode, there’s something about 2 Broke Girls that strikes you as slightly different from all other sitcoms on television at the moment. To begin with, there’s the storyline — a rich, spoilt Manhattan girl,Caroline Channing loses her home and money after her father gets caught in a money laundering scheme and is sent to jail. She moves to Brooklyn to work as a waitress at a diner. A girl from a poor,working-class family,Max Black, already waits tables at this same diner. Though she’s portrayed as something of a skeptic and someone who doesn’t particularly seem to like people, the two form a friendship after Max takes the homeless Caroline in. What follows is a series of adventures — or misadventures — as the two attempt to raise enough money to start a cupcake business with Caroline’s business education and Max’s baking skills.

Who’s in it?

The two primary characters in the show are,Max and Caroline, portrayed by Kat Dennings (whose most famous role includes Thor) and Beth Behrs (who has featured on television shows, such as,Castle and NCIS),respectively. Some of the other interesting characters include the owner of the diner they work at,Han Lee (played by Matthew Moy),the chef,Oleg (played by Jonathan Kite),the cashier,Earl (played by Garrett Morris) and the girls’ neighbour,Sophie, who comes in towards the middle of the first season.

What’s hot?

The show scores high on humour. It’s sharp, witty and despite the fact that it’s often the usual sexual sort,it is genuinely funny. Some of the most memorable lines come from Max,who, perhaps, makes the show what it is. There is,however, also the sheer variety of characters that make it all the more enjoyable. In a number of other sitcoms,a character with Caroline’s background would normally be portrayed as fussy, petty and annoying. The makers of 2 Broke Girls, however, have stayed away from that stereotype and chosen, instead,to make her adapting. This adds to the likeability of the show.

What’s not?

There is actually very little about the show that you can find fault with. Perhaps the only thing that may become a point of concern in later seasons — the second season of the show went on air in the US in March this year — is monotony.

Should you be watching it?

Most certainly worth a watch. Everyone likes a good half hour of comedy every now and then, and 2 Broke Girls is probably one of your best bets on television at the moment.
