Artists are often said to be blessed with the power of imagination for they deal with a broad spectrum of creativity to invent something unparalleled, something that reflect their thoughts and lifestyle. These creators of art brings forth to us,life and reality in a platter of a brand new perspective. This can indeed be justified by the works of Pune-based artist Suresh Limbaraj Gulage who paints buildings and monuments in an astoundingly unique way.Usually, most artists are into the practice of drawing portraits or abstract art,so I thought of trying my hands in something more specific and predicate. Inspired by the Wada designs of Pune,I started off with landscapes, but eventually buildings and monuments became my forte, says Gulage.
Gulage has a very interesting definition of buildings. He believes that they are not just mute spectators of a city, rather they make a place alive. I love to observe the way lights play with buildings. They illuminate these structures in diverse ways,at different hours of the day. The same light can elucidate the windows, doors and motifs on the wall- in unique ways. This is the essence of my painting. I capture this exclusivity of enlightenment on my canvas, smiles the artist.
He creates magic on his canvas by highlighting the exquisiteness of buildings and monuments through brushwork and hues. My paintings are subtle and suggestive, he explains.
Many painters prefer going to different places for inspirational gains- but Gulage begs to differ.I don’t make conscious efforts to visit new places to find my muse. I let my imagination and creativity flow. But Mumbai has been a great source of inspiration for me- and you can see it in my paintings, he quips.
The vernal artist has been organising exhibitions for the past six years; currently his solo show is being held at Malaka Spice Art Gallery,Koregaon Park,Pune. This is my eighth solo show.Apart from this, till now I have showcased my paintings in 27 group shows all over India, shares the award winning artist.
And while t his artist is known to have such unequal talent,he is blessed to have a better half with similar abilities. My wife is an artist too,she is mostly into figurative drawings. Our styles are different and that works magic for us! We have learnt a lot from each other, smiles the proud husband.
