Principal district and sessions judge Anant Badar on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Mahesh Balasaheb Thakur (24),accused in Nayana Pujari gang rape and murder case.

Jayamika Jahagirdhar, counsel for Thakur had told the court on Saturday the case is based on circumstantial evidence and none of the prosecution’s witnesses identified Thakur during the identification parade.

Opposing the bail plea, special public prosecutor Harshad Nimbalkar had said it is a case of conspiracy and Thakur is one of the main accused. “His blood-stained clothes were seized and the blood was matched with that of Nayana Pujari,” he said. Nimbalkar added that approver Rajesh Chowdhary, has described the role of each accused in detail and had given his statement before a magistrate. “Thakur had raped Nayana twice. Thakur along with another accused Yogesh Raut went to withdraw money from ATM using Nayana’s debit card.”
