Techie’s mental instability may have driven him to murder: cops

The Pune police are yet to record the statement of Subhojit Basu,the 29-year-old alumnus of IIT Bombay who strangulated his younger sister Priyadarshini Basu (24) to death and tried to kill himself at their Bavdhan flat on Wednesday morning.

The Pune police are yet to record the statement of Subhojit Basu,the 29-year-old alumnus of IIT Bombay who strangulated his younger sister Priyadarshini Basu (24) to death and tried to kill himself at their Bavdhan flat on Wednesday morning.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Basu is mentally unstable. Police suspect that he was under depression as he was out of job despite being highly qualified. Police inspector Ganpat Madgulkar of Hinjewadi police station said,“Basu is still in the hospital. His condition is stable but we have not recorded his statement yet. We suspect he is mentally unstable and killed his sister following some tensions. We are yet to confirm the cause.”

Meanwhile,Priyadarshini’s funeral took place in the presence of her parents who reached Pune from Kolkata today.

After killing Priyadarshini in their rented flat,Subhojit had tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrist. Later,he was admitted to the Sassoon General Hospital. He tried to escape from the hospital ward and in the process injured a police constable.
