Teachers’ strike to hit revaluation results

The ongoing college teachers’ strike is likely to affect around 35,000 students of BSc,BCS,BA,BCom and other non-professional courses who have applied for revaluation.

The ongoing college teachers’ strike is likely to affect around 35,000 students of BSc,BCS,BA,BCom and other non-professional courses who have applied for revaluation. The results of the examinations held for them in March-April,which were scheduled to be declared by July-end,will now be delayed by at least a fortnight.

Usually the students get enough time to decide whether or not to appear for the examination taking place in October/November and fill examination forms accordingly. “However,if there is no time left between the last date to submit examination forms for October exams and the revaluation results,we will have to fill the exam form anyway to be on the safer side,” a student said. “We had requested some teachers on a personal level to ensure that the revaluation results are not affected. However,no official direction has been given by the university,” said Shivaji Ahire, acting controller of examination,University of Pune. Most teachers engaged in revaluation are from the aided senior colleges.

“Only about 25 to 30 per cent revaluation work has been done before the teachers went on strike,” said Dr Gajanan Ekbote, chairman of Progressive Education Society that runs Modern College. Aniruddha Deshpande, principal of Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC),said the centralised admission procedure of other non-professional courses has also been affected by the strike.

Ahire said as the BSc and BCS results were declared earlier, their work had already begun before the strike. However, the revaluation of papers of the other streams is yet to begin. At present, students have to apply for revaluation within 10 days of declaration of the results at their respective colleges. These applications are forwarded to the examination cell of the university. If the revaluation leads to at least five per cent difference in the marks, the change is notified to the colleges. Meanwhile, with the strike entering its 10 day on Thursday, the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Associations (MFUCTO) has urged the chief minister to intervene in the matter. “We had submitted a memorandum to this effect during our demonstration held outside the Nashik Civil Hospital on Wednesday,” said C R Sadashivan, president of MFUCTO.

He said negotiations are expected within two to three days.
