The Pune police arrested a high school teacher on Tuesday for allegedly beating a girl student because she wrote “abusive content” about him on a bench in the classroom.

The Hinjewadi police arrested the teacher,Samir Eknath Dhotre (24) of Ganesh Nagar in Thergaon,on the complaint of Satish Vitthal Gaikwad (40),father of the girl who is a Class VI student of Khinvsara Patil Vidya Mandir in Thergaon.

While teaching in Madhuri’s classroom, the police said,Dhotre found that she had written some “abusive content” about him on the bench with a chalk. Angered by this,he allegedly beat the girl “with his hands and also with a wooden scale”.

After the girl went home, her parents saw marks on her body due to the beating.

The parents then approached the police and lodged a complaint against Dhotre. Police arrested the teacher under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code. Assistant police inspector D D Jagdale is investigating the case.

The school has, meanwhile, initiated an internal inquiry into the matter. School authorities said there had been no complaint against the teacher in the past, but it was not acceptable if a teacher beat any student.
