Over 50,000 college teachers across the state will continue their strike as the talks with the state government on Saturday fell flat.

Over 50,000 college teachers across the state will continue their strike as the talks with the state government on Saturday fell flat.

College teachers alleged that the government wanted deviations from the implementation of recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission (SPC).

The Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation (MFUCTO) has so far had three rounds of discussions with the government. After the first two rounds,Minister for Higher and Technical Education Rajesh Tope on Friday had said that the solution was in sight and a draft was ready. However,on Saturday, things went wrong again. “The government representatives wanted some deviations from SPC recommendations, which was not acceptable to us,” said A T Sanap, vice president of MFUCTO.

Sanap also said during discussions, the minister had agreed to all SPC recommendations. “However, the higher education secretary and director refused to put it on paper. We will not give up till we get a written agreement from the government,” he said.
