In what could be a big hurdle for University of Punes (UoP) newly launched MTech (Aviation) course, most of the registered candidates from the first batch of 20 have failed to pay the first installment of fees even as the deadline ended on October 26.
Speaking to Newsline,S I Patil,Head,Department of Technology,UoP,said the varsity was forced to extend the deadline to November 20 as candidates could not meet the earlier deadline.
The varsity, through a notice issued on October 8,had stated that admissions to M.Tech Aviation course would stand cancelled if the fees is not paid before October 26. Candidates selected for the course need to pay Indian rupees equivalent to 5,000 (Euros) to UoP on getting admission, and 70,000 (Euros) to Germany-based flying institute Fachschule fur Luftfahrzeugfuhrer (FFL),said the notice. The amount in Indian currency calculates to be nearly Rs four lakh and Rs 59 lakh, respectively.
We believe that most of the students failed to get their loans passed from the banks and could not pay the first installment on time. The festive season may have also posed difficulties for candidates and their parents in arranging money. We are hopeful that barring a few,all registered candidates will pay the first installment before the new deadline, said Patil.
While UoP has been facilitating desired financial help to M.Tech Aviation candidates through one of the nationalised banks, the huge amount of fee for the course, which runs into more than Rs 60 lakh, was reportedly one of the obstacles in early clearance of loans from banks. The recent fall of rupees has also resulted in escalation of fees.
In July, the university had entered into an MoU with FFL to offer M Tech-Aviation course. As per the agreement, the first semester of the four will be conducted at UoP,while the remaining three semesters would involve onsite training at FFL facilities in Frankfurt,Germany.
On whether the extended deadline for paying the fees would have any adverse impact on the overall course schedule,Patil said, We will start the first semester by first week of December and will conclude it by February-end. Candidates will leave for Germany by March, said Patil.
